About Spain

Spain is the larger of the two Iberian Peninsula countries (the other being Portugal) with a population of 46,000,000. Mainland Spain shares land borders with Portugal, France, Gibraltar and the tiny Pyrenean Principality of Andorra.

With its location at the gateway to the Mediterranean Sea, there are ferry services connecting Spain with its North African enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla, to Morocco, Algeria and to Italy and her island of Sardinia.

Spain also includes two major archipelagos - the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea and the Canary Islands in the North Atlantic Ocean. There are, of course, plenty of ferry services connecting mainland Spain with her offshore islands. The northern coast of Spain sees regular services to the south coast ports of England and a service to Saint Nazaire (France).

Most ferries carry a combination of both tourist and freight traffic but some are dedicated to the carriage of freight traffic only. Some inter-island services are operated by catamarans and other high-speed craft that may not accept all types of freight vehicles.
