About Finland
Finland is one of the largest countries in Europe but one of the most sparsely populated. She has an area of 338,000 square kilometres but a population of only 5.3m, with the majority being concentrated in the southernmost region. Finland shares land borders with Norway to the north, Sweden to the west and with Russia to the east. Located near its southern tip, Finland's capital city is Helsinki.
Helsinki has ferry connections to the Estonian capital city of Tallinn and via a much longer sailing across the Baltic Sea to Germany at Rostock. There are also links with Stockholm via the Finnish Åland Islands. The regional capital of Turku is connected to Sweden with services operating via the Åland Islands. Ferries operating these routes carry a combination of both tourist and freight traffic.
