About Crete

Located in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, the island of Crete is the largest of the Greek Islands with a population of 625,000. Covering an area of approximately 8,300 square kilometres Crete is located 160kms south of the Greek mainland. The capital city is Heraklion, mid-way along the north coast of this mountainous island.

There is a regular service from the Greek mainland port of Pireaus to Heraklion, the crossing taking 7½ - 8 hours. The ferry carries a combination of both tourist and freight traffic.
