With Balearia, all private use vans exceeding 6m in length must be booked as freight. If commercial goods are being carried you must book as freight, regardless of the length. Baleària is a leading Spanish shipping company operating a fleet of 14 vessels, six of which carry freight.
From Barcelona there is a daily overnight service to Palma de Mallorca with the return sailing operating during daylight hours. The crossing takes seven hours and is usually operated by the 2010 built, 26,500t Visemar One.
There are up to five weekly departures between Barcelona & Alcudia (Mallorca), with some services operating via Menorca. Generally served by the 24,600t Martín i Soler, built in 2009, the direct crossing takes six hours (nine when routed via Menorca).
Barcelona is also the gateway to Ibiza with up to four return sailings per week, either to Ibiza itself or the port of San Antonio. Again, services from the mainland operate overnight and take 7½ - 8½ hours whilst the return departures from Ibiza leave at lunchtime.
From Spain's third largest city, Valencia, there is a daily departure to Palma de Mallorca with most services routed via Ibiza. The overnight sailing from the mainland takes 7½ hours for direct services or 9 hours when routed via Ibiza. The 35,000t, 2010-built Abel Matutes usually serves this route. The same vessel also operates up to two sailings per week between Valencia & Menorca.
Midway between Valencia and Alicante, Dénia sees up to seven services each week to San Antonio (Ibiza), six services to Ibiza itself and a further two to Palma de Mallorca. Most departures between Dénia and the Balearics are serviced by either Passió per Formentera or a dedicated freight vessel, the voyage taking approximately 5 hours.
Baleària also operates inter-island services with both conventional ferries and high speed craft, although freight is limited on the latter. Using conventional vessels, there are up to eight sailings per week on the 3 ½ hour link between Ibiza & Palma de Mallorca and five sailings on the 2 hour crossing between Alcudia& Menorca (Cuidadela). There are also conventional ferry services linking Palma & Mahon and Mahon & Ibiza. These inter-island services are operated by the same vessels used for the mainland links.
At the gateway to the Mediterranean, Baleària operates regular daily services across the Straits of Gibraltar from Algeciras to Tangiers & Ceuta, Morocco. The crossing takes approximately one hour.
