About Corsica

Located in the Mediterranean Sea the island of Corsica, although closer to Italy, is a part of France. It has a population of about 300,000 and covers an area of approximately 8,700 square kilometres. The Corsican capital city and birthplace of Napoléon Bonaparte is Ajaccio, located on the west coast. Bastia in the north is the island's second port.

There are regular services from the French mainland ports of Toulon and Nice to Ajaccio, Bastia, Calvi and Ile Rousse. There are also regular ferries linking Corsica with the Italian mainland ports of Savona, Genoa and Livorno. Finally, Ajaccio is connected with Corsica's Italian sister island of Sardinia at Porto Torres. These ferries carry a combination of both tourist and freight traffic.
