Portsmouth is a well connected freight ferry port and is nearer to central London than Dover or the Channel Tunnel. Portsmouth freight port has five berths and is capable of handling most RoRo ships currently in service. As a result of recent investments in new build and new tonnage, the port's freight handling capacity has grown. Sail from Portsmouth and there's a choice of five commercial destination ports and two in the Channel Islands.
Sailing information
Sail to Le Havre (daily, 5h:30m) with LD Lines, Bilbao (3 a week, 29 hrs) with P&O Ferries, Guernsey (6 a week, 12h:30m) and Jersey (6 a week, 10h:30m) with Condor Ferries, Cherbourg (2 a day, 3hrs) or St. Malo (1 a week, 10h:45m) with Brittany Ferries, or Isle of Wight (35 a day, 15m) with Wightlink.
Portsmouth Ferry Port facilities
The main commercial ferry terminal offers facilities such as an information desk, a cafeteria, a bar, newsagent and gift shop, a bureau de change, photo booth, payphones and public fax. At the end of the boarding lanes, you can find the travel centre, which offers a café, a bureau de change and motoring and gift shops. Facilities at the two Isle of Wight Ferry Terminals include refreshment facilities, cloakrooms, public phones, disabled toilets and nearby parking.
Getting to Portsmouth Ferry Port by road
Exit M27 at J12 & follow M275 to Portsmouth. At the Rudmore Roundabout turn right & follow signs for Ferries. The Continental Ferry Port is straight ahead, and once in follow signs for the Freight Weighbridge entrance.
When leaving the freight port, recent road improvements mean that an exit road gives vehicles direct access to a northbound slip road on to the M275, plus easy access to central Portsmouth.
