DFDS and LD Lines are launching a joint passenger and freight service on the Dover - Calais route from 17th Feb.
Initially the route will be serviced by one ship, LD Lines' Norman Spirit which will be transferred to the Calais route from Dunkirk. The Norman Spirit has been servicing DFDS Seaways Dunkirk - Dover route since mid-November last year, following the suspension of Sea France services.
A second ship will be added to the route as soon as a suitable ship becomes available.
For this service they will hire 300 employees many of them being former Sea France staff. In December, DFDS dropped the attempt to buy Sea France which was liquidated by the French Court on 9th of January.
In a recent statement DFDS said that they are grateful for the support they received from the French Government, Chamber of Commerce and ports and local authorities.
They are looking forward to welcoming passengers as well as freight companies to their new route.
