The capital of lower Normandy, Caen lies between two rivers, the Orne and the Odon. Caen was one of the many cities to suffer serve ill-effects of World War II. Caen is a historic Norman city but has the newest ferry-port on the Channel. Caen ships dock at Ouistreham, at the Transmanche terminal, 15km north of Caen, accessed via fast dual carriageway. The terminal is used to transfer both passengers and freight for Brittany Ferries who offer frequent freight services between France and England.
